Its primary purpose is to test the fire models predictive capability in predicting temperature and flow distributions in a small compartment subject to a steady non-spreading fire. This case was studied experimentally by Steckler et al (NBSIR 82-2520, NBS, 1982). A steady non-spreading fire of 100kW is located centrally in a compartment measuring 2.8m square by 2.18m high. The walls and ceiling were 0.1m thick and covered with a ceramic fibre insulation board to establish near steady-state conditions within 30 minutes. The door measures 0.74m wide and 1.83m high and is located centrally in one of the walls. The CFD model assumes all the walls are adiabatic and perfect radiative reflectors.
